Multi Million Pound Investment For Local Schools

A multi-million pound investment is being proposed for Bognor Regis Community College.

West Sussex County Council have made a proposal to government under the "building Schools for the Future - One School Pathfinder Programme". The proposal involves a total redevelopment of the BRCC campus, with the possibility of amalgamating Michael Ayres Junior and the Glade Infant schools into one straight through primary school.

WSCC identified the coastal strip as a priority and a number of evaluations of secondary schools south of the A27 have been performed over recent months.

The Cabinet Member for Children and Young People's Services has been asked to support the detailed proposal that has now been submitted to the DfES. The DfES will decide if the project it to proceed, early in 2007. If approved, it is expected that the school will be rebuilt by 2009.

Although there were several schools that were deserving of funding, government money is only available to fund one school. BRCC was chosen over Littlehampton Community School.

BRCC is currently a split site school, which presents a number of organisational and logistical problems. One of the aims of the project is to consolidate the BRCC campus on to one site, which will mean building where the Glade school is now.

Some land will no longer be required after the reorganisation, and it is anticipated that this land could be sold to support major capital work at Littlehampton Community School.
