Home Zone Is Finally Here

Written 30/06/04

Following two years of consultation and design work involving public discussions, exhibitions, design workshops, "drop-in" events and residents' votes, construction of the Bognor Home Zone and 20 mph Zone will commence in mid-July 2004.

This collaboration between the Residents of the Bognor Regis Pevensey and Orchard Wards, West Sussex County Council, Arun District Council, Bognor Regis Town Council and the emergency services has transformed a successful funding bid into a reality.

The Bognor Home Zone will be the first in West Sussex, and one of only 60 successful bids for Home Zone funding in the country.

During the consultation process the Pevensey Orchard Community Action Group ( POCAG ), formerly known as the Community Participation Group, has been formed from residents of the streets included in the Home Zone and 20 mph Zone to give them a continuing ownership of the projects once finished. The Group already has ideas for future enhancements, such as possible improvements to street lighting, as a project of its own, including the routine maintenance of the Home Zone area.

POCAG is actively seeking further residents from more streets to volunteer to participate in the Group's activities (including attending Committee meetings) on a regular basis to improve the community spirit and bind the links between the project streets. Contact the Secretary (Martin LeGrand) on 01243 868241, or Vice-Chair (Ron Black) 07944 154415 for details.
