Aldwick Preservation Society
The Aldwick Preservation Society was formed in 1977, as a result of plans to develop a massive roundabout taht the junction of Hawthorne Road and Aldwick Road, by a group of local residents. These same residents were also campaigning to save the old cattle pond adjacent to Aldwick Farm. Thus the society was born.
The society was successful in acquiring the former Aldwick Farm cattle pond and transforming it into the present highly regarded local amenity - an attractive duck pond with beautiful surrounds open to the public all year round maintained entirely by the society.
The society is registered with the Charity Commissioners, the Civic Trust and the Open Spaces Society.
Operationally, the Society is run by a small team of local people elected at the annual general meeting held each spring.
This Committee keeps in touch with some 1,150 members by means of a quarterly newsletter delivered free to members' homes by about 30 volunteers, whose help is much appreciated.
A strong membership, supportive of the Society's fund-raising activities is essential. Local residents, not already members are invited to join without delay.
Life membership is only £5, and this gives automatic entitlement to a free quarterly newsletter. To join, please contact our Membership Secretary, Meriel Waters, 1 Alborough Way, Aldwick, (Tel: 266525) who will be pleased to deal with your application.
