Major improvements to Bognor Regis Railway Station will begin next
month.
South Central, the train operator is removing the three sidings by the
side of the station and replacing them with rails suitable for the new
sliding door trains. The intention of this work is to ensure that all
trains and rolling stock used to server Bognor will be able to use the
more modern Electrostar trains rather that the ubiquitous 1960's
antiquities.
Work will be carried out by AMEC Capital Projects, who have agreed to
operating practices designed to cause noise and disruption to residents
of Longford Road to a minimum. It is anticipated that the Electrostar
carriages will be in use by the end of December 2004.
Preparatory work began last October. The sidings scheme is part of a
£115 million program of improvements throughout the South Central
Region.
