A new speed camera is to be permanently sited on the A29 between the Rowan Way and Orchard Way roundabouts, on the south bound carriageway.
Clear signs are being installed to warn motorists of the camera, which will be coloured bright yellow and operational by mid December.
This stretch of the A29 is an accident blackspot and its high accident rate is the reason that the camera has been installed, claimed Emma Rogers, spokeswoman for the Sussex Safety Camera Partnership.
"The criteria for site selection is very demanding and led by our need to resolve ever recurring problems of road safety" she said.
The Partnership, made up of West and East Sussex County Councils, Brighton and Hove City Council, Sussex Police, the Highways Agency and the Magistrates Court are funding the camera.
Fines issued will increase in line with the severity of the speeding offence.
