Branson's Birdman Bid

Written 06/02/03

Virgin Boss Richard Branson will be taking part in this year's International Bognor Birdman.

In addition to taking part, the Virgin chairman will be handing out prizes to the successful competitors in the three classes: fancy dress, Leonardo da Vinci and serious flier. This comes after recent news that Virgin Atlantic will be providing £25,000 sponsorship for the event, which is to be held on 31st August.

A Virgin spokesman said yesterday "Richard will definitely be joining in the Birdman rally. The only doubt is which of the categories he will be taking part in. That hasn't been decided yet."

"He is also likely to be involved in other parts of the day, though his exact participation is yet to be worked out."

"Richard will be in Bognor for however long the event takes. He thinks the Birdman is a well known event which is innovative and great fun as well."

"This being the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight and the 25th anniversary of the Birdman in Bognor bringing everything together very nicely."

"There has already been a lot of international interest in Birdman. There should be a very good turnout on Bognor on the day by all accounts."

This years event will be on Sunday, 31 August 2003. If you have any enquiries or require an entry pack pdf please contact:

Closing date for receipt of applications will be 21 March.
